ABOUT US

Who are we?

We are the Youth Forum BANES – a group of 11 -18 year olds living or studying in Bath and North-East Somerset. We share the common goal of making change in our community and getting young voices heard! We work on projects to do with current topics we care about (such as mental health, climate change and respect) to make a difference for young people in our area, as well as just hang out with each other and have fun discussing issues and topics.

Our Campaigns

We work on key issues that young people in BANES care about. This year our campaigns include:

  • Protect the Environment

  • Mental Health Awareness

  • Respect

What do we do?

We meet regularly to work on projects and campaigns, to make a difference in our local area. These have included podcasts for important causes, speaking at webinars, creating this website and participating in interview panels to make sure young people are heard.

Why did we make this website?

This website has been created over summer 2020 to give ideas of activities young people can do to in response to the increased amount of spare time we all have. We wanted to provide something to help others find new activities to do to fit all lifestyles, as well as breaking down barriers to accessing activities.

Katch

Hello, I’m Katch and in Sixth Form. I’m really interested in student and youth engagement in politics and wider society, and I’m also passionate about mental health awareness and support in school and society. Since 2010 I’ve been an avid football supporter, and love to play the piano! I also get involved in my old village co-running the Brownie pack there, and help lead similar engagements at school with the rest of the student leadership team. Some of my other interests include musicals and bullet journaling, and I love discussing anything and everything to do with them!

Jasmin

Hi I’m Jasmin and I have been part of the Youth Forum for over 6 years. I passionately believe the voice of young people should be heard amongst society and a focal point in the minds of professionals and decision makers. I was previously elected as the Member Of Youth Parliament which enabled me to further understand the voice of young people and then advocate for it. Outside of campaigning I am a healthcare assistant in the local hospital and hope to progress into social work. I also enjoy exploring the countryside, meeting friends and chilling with my bunny named Freddie.

Lucas

Hi I’m Lucas! I am particularly passionate about issues surrounding young people’s voices, equal rights/treatment and protecting our environment. I love drama, cooking, all things computers, being outside and photography.

Jade

I'm Jade and I've just started with the youth forum! I've finished my secondary school and I am excited to study animal care. I enjoy spending quality time with family and friends, walking my dog and baking. What I like the most about baking is how you improve your independent skills and become more confident.

Indra

Hi, I am Indra, and I’ve been part of Youth forum for almost three years. I’m very passionate about politics. Youth Forum has given me the chance to make a positive change in BaNES and learn about the issues that face young people in BaNES. Youth Forum also enabled me the opportunity to run and become MYP (Member of Youth Parliament); this gave me the chance to experience taking part in an election. Some of my interests include reading books, especially Murder Mysteries, I also really enjoy rollerskating and hiking in mountains.

Maya

Hi, I’m Maya and this is my first year as part of the Youth Forum. I am studying Biology, Chemistry and History at A-level and as an aspiring medical student I have really enjoyed working on our mental health campaign. Youth forum has enabled me to learn about the wider social issues that young people face that affect our emotional and physical wellbeing. As part of the Youth Forum I have broadened my horizons outside of the classroom, with the opportunity to speak in front of the council and write my own manifesto which was great chance to develop my individual views. I also enjoy embroidery in my spare time.
